DialTone allows you to establish multiple simultaneous PC-to-PC, PC-to-phone, and phone-to-PC calls over a local area network (LAN), or the Internet, with very high quality audio using industry standard protocols and codecs. No longer do you need to memorize obscure IP addresses or remember which gateway to use - the integrated address book will keep track of all your contacts, as well as the different locations they can be reached, enter the contact information and their address and you''re finished! Also, if you use gateways to contact someone on the regular public switched telephone network (PSTN), the integrated gateway address book allows you to attach a friendly name to the gateway making it easier to remember which gateway to use to reach that branch office. DialTone was designed to address the many shortcomings found in other network-phone clients. Many clients have implemented proprietary protocols that restrict your use to that company''s software, and you can''t talk to friends unless they, too, have that client. Also, many clients require you to register with their servers, and login each time you use their client, allowing them to track your usage. In addition, if their server isn''t working, neither are you. By designing DialTone around the H.323 protocol your contacts can utilize already existing H.323-compatible clients that may already be deployed at their location (e.g. Cisco, Microsoft, Dialogic, etc.). Registration with a centralized server isn''t required and tracking of your usage is impossible. DialTone also simulates a multi-line phone allowing you to make and receive calls while you''re talking with someone. In addition, the incoming caller is identified, similar to caller-ID, and gives you the opportunity to either accept or reject that call. DialTone also offers call hold and retrieve buttons giving users the ability to switch to a separate, already established call, or simply pause the conversation.
